Utah RINO Mitt Romney is the Founding Father of the Never Trump movement.
But even in a national emergency Romney will not lay down his sword and stop working to undermine President Trump.
And now Mitt Romney joined the Democrats’ coronavirus crusade and now Trump is boiling with rage.
The Senate recently passed a two trillion dollar economic relief package to keep small businesses afloat during the government imposed lockdown to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
The legislation created a “Special Inspector General” to supposedly exercise oversight over how the administration administered the relief funds.
When President Trump signed the legislation he also issued a signing statement explaining that this provision of the bill interfered with the President’s powers under Article Two of the United States Constitution.
The President’s signing statement stated the administration would assert its constitutional power to make sure the Special Inspector General complied with the separation of powers.
“I do not understand, and my Administration will not treat, this provision as permitting the SIGPR to issue reports to the Congress without the presidential supervision required by the Take Care Clause,” the President stated.
Democrats fumed over this development as they wanted another layer of federal bureaucracy to exist within the administrative branch but essentially work for Congress.
However it was not just Democrats pitching a temper tantrum.
Never Trump fanatic Mitt Romney joined the outrage.
Romney and Montana Democrat Jon Tester dispatched a letter to the administration demanding the President abide by the constitutionally dubious scheme concocted by Congress.
“With trillions of taxpayer dollars being spent, it is critically important for the Administration to ensure full transparency and willingness for independent oversight,” Romney and Tester wrote.
“As you work to implement COVID-19 legislation, we ask that you provide Congress a detailed plan on how the government plans to execute these funds and what accountability measures are being put in place to ensure our taxpayer dollars are being spent efficiently and effectively,” their letter added.
Romney and Tester also accused Trump of making claims he never did.
“We expect that the Special Inspector General will fulfill its statutory responsibilities, and look forward to working with your administration to ensure robust oversight of taxpayer dollars,” Romney and Tester whined.
The President’s signing statement never said the Special Inspector General wouldn’t function as an oversight mechanism.
But President Trump wanted to make sure that Congress did not encroach on the President’s powers as spelled out in the Constitution.
Romney and Tester claimed the President wanted to block the Special Inspector General from reporting to Congress when the President said such reports would ensure the President supervising the work of executive branch officials.
Even after Romney’s impeachment betrayal failed to remove the President from office the Never Trump zealot will not relent in his crusade to destroy President Trump.
Instead of uniting around the Commander-in-Chief during an emergency that the President and even many Democrats deemed a “wartime effort” Romney is still hunting for ways to act as a thorn in Trump’s side and amplify Democrat attacks on the administration.
