Nancy Pelosi and her allies are looking to claim as many scalps as possible in their pursuit of removing Donald Trump from office.
Attorney General William Barr found himself as the latest target of the Democrats’ “get Trump” crusade.
Speaker Pelosi appeared on MSNBC after Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire testified before the House Intelligence Committee.
Maguire told Congress that after the spy filed his so-called “whistleblower” complaint, Maguire went to lawyers at both the White House and Justice Department to see if this complaint fell under the law mandating it be turned over to Congress.
The Justice Department and White House counsel both told Maguire that the applicable law did not apply to the President since the President is not part of the intelligence community.
Even though Maguire sought legal guidance to ensure he complied with the law – Maguire is a “by the book” appointee that isn’t partisan – Democrats and their allies in the fake news media seized on the story to spin it into something sinister.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” the next day for her first sit down interview since announcing her support for an impeachment inquiry.
During the interview co-host Joe Scarborough attacked the Justice Department and Attorney General William Barr for “going rogue.”
Speaker Pelosi picked up on that thread and repeated Scarborough’s “going rogue” smear.
But Pelosi went even further, accusing Barr of taking part in a criminal cover-up.
“He’s gone rogue,” Pelosi told the “Morning Joe” co-hosts. “I think where they’re going is a cover-up of a cover-up.”
“I think it’s sad, to have a Justice Department go so rogue,” she continued. “Well, they have been for a while. And now it just makes matters worse.”
Pelosi’s cover-up charge shows how fake and manufactured this supposed “scandal” really is.
There is no fair reading of the statute in question that would lead any sane individual to believe it applies to the President.
The statue limits the authority of the intelligence community inspector general to being “…authorized to receive and investigate, pursuant to subsection (h), complaints or information from any person concerning the existence of an activity within the authorities and responsibilities of the Director of National Intelligence constituting a violation of laws, rules, or regulations, or mismanagement, gross waste of funds, abuse of authority, or a substantial and specific danger to the public health and safety.”
Clearly the President falls outside the authorities and responsibilities of the Director of National Intelligence.
But facts don’t matter to Pelosi.
The Speaker announced the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry before either the transcript of President Trump’s call with the Ukrainian President or the so-called “whistleblower” complaint were released.
Americans just look at her attacks on Barr as part of a sad pattern of Pelosi declaring guilt before all the facts are in.
