Everyone thought Kamala Harris would be the Democrats’ nominee for President in 2024.
But those plans may have just fallen apart.
One behind the scenes decision is bad news for Kamala Harris’ political future.
When Joe Biden ran for President he claimed he would be a transitional figure that would serve one term and pass the torch to the next generation of Democrats.
Biden picking Kamala Harris as his running mate seemed to confirm those suspicions as Biden would be 82 years old when his second term started should he run for re-election and win.
Joe Biden’s clearly fading cognitive abilities only seemed to confirm the idea that there is no way Joe Biden would be physically or mentally capable of serving two terms as President.
But Harris may have to wait until 2028 to run for President.
Fox News reports the Democrat National Committee is working on behalf of Joe Biden’s re-election campaign and gathering opposition research n 49 potential Republican challengers.
“A Democratic National Committee research team has identified at least 49 Republicans, more than 20 of whom are active politicians, who could launch presidential bids, a committee spokesman confirmed to Fox News. The team is also focused on the 2022 midterm elections as the Democrats attempt to retain their razor-thin majorities in Congress.” Fox News reported.
Fox reported that the Democrat National Committee gathered opposition research on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, Tucker Carlson and My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell among others.
While Biden has not said he will run for re-election, the Democrat National Committee is proceeding as he will.
“A Democratic consultant connected with the DNC also confirmed the start of opposition research efforts, telling Fox News it would be “political malpractice” not to begin preparations at this stage. The Republican National Committee and pro-GOP opposition research group America Rising began similar efforts for potential Democratic candidates at this stage in Donald Trump’s term in office four years ago.,” Fox News also reported.
The news that the Democrat National Committee began preparing for Biden’s re-election campaign broke on the same day Trump gave the strongest hint yet that he would run for President again in 2024.
“As you know, it’s very early. But I think people are going to be very, very happy when I make a certain announcement.” Trump told conservative commentator Candace Owens.
If Donald Trump runs for President he is the odds on favorite to win the GOP nomination as many of the likely contenders will take a pass.
That means if Joe Biden and Donald Trump are their respective party nominees, America could see its first Presidential election rematch since 1856 when Dwight Eisenhower took on Adlai Stevenson for a second time.
