Nancy Pelosi put the January 6 Committee together to act as the third impeachment of Donald Trump.
Pelosi hoped the committee would pressure the Biden administration to criminally charge Trump and prevent Trump from running for re-election in 2024.
And the January 6 Committee’s case against Trump collapsed because of this massive blunder.
The January 6 Committee staged a “surprise” hearing featuring 26-year-old former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson.
Hutchinson delivered a made-for-TV performance replete with scenes straight out a Hollywood action movie where President Trump attempted to choke out his then head of his protection detail Bobby Engel and commandeer the Presidential SUV and drive the car to the Capitol on January 6.
Hutchinson presented hearsay testimony claiming White House deputy chief of staff Tony Ornato told her this tale.
NBC reports Hutchinson testifying Ornato told her:
The president reached up towards the front of the vehicle to grab at the steering wheel. Mr. Engel grabbed his arm and said, ‘Sir, you need to take your hand off the steering wheel, we’re going back to the West Wing. We’re not going to the Capitol.'”
Hutchinson added that Trump “then used his free hand to lunge towards Bobby Engel, and when Mr. Ornato had recounted this story to me, he had motioned toward his” collarbone.
The anti-Trump corporate media, professional Never Trumpers and Democrats celebrated Hutchinson’s testimony as the silver bullet that would finally result in criminal charges exiling Donald Trump from public life forever.
But there was just one problem.
Hutchinson’s testimony was full of holes and contained several falsehoods.
NBC reported that Engle denied there was ever a physical confrontation between Trump and his security detail.
“A source close to the Secret Service tells me both Bobby Engel, the lead agent, and the presidential limousine/SUV driver are prepared to testify under oath that neither man was assaulted and that Mr. Trump never lunged for the steering wheel,” NBC’s Peter Alexander wrote on social media.
A source close to the Secret Service said Trump was not happy the Secret Service would not take him to the Capitol but there was no physical altercation.
“He was not pleased to hear that, but there was no escalation of any type of assault on that,” the source told NBC.
Hutchinson also testified she was the author of a handwritten statement President Trump was to deliver telling the people in the Capitol to leave and go home.
“Anyone who entered the Capitol without proper authority should leave immediately,” Hutchinson claimed the note she wrote read.
But White House lawyer Eric Herschmann stated he wrote the note and Hutchinson was not telling the truth.
“The handwritten note that Cassidy Hutchinson testified was written by her was in fact written by Eric Herschmann on January 6, 2021,” a spokesman working for Herschmann stated. “All sources with direct knowledge and law enforcement have and will confirm that it was written by Mr. Herschmann.”
Hutchinson’s lawyer reiterated that Hutchinson stood by her testimony.
“Ms. Hutchinson stands by all of the testimony she provided yesterday, under oath, to the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol,” the lawyer claimed.
But at that point it was too late.
Hutchinson’s testimony collapsed under the weight of denials and even the slightest bit of scrutiny.
