Andrew Cuomo’s coronavirus response was an absolute disaster.
There’s no excuse for his actions.
The results of a coronavirus investigation is Andrew Cuomo’s worst nightmare.
Andrew Cuomo told nursing homes that didn’t want to take in infectious coronavirus patients that they had no choice.
“They don’t have a right to object. That is the rule and that is the regulation and they have to comply with that,” Cuomo said despite the fact that there were empty field hospitals waiting to be used.
He said the regulation mandating nursing homes take in coronavirus patients was “common sense.”
New York sent more than 4,500 patients into nursing homes that were forced to take them in whether or not they had protective gear.
Cuomo didn’t reverse the order until May 10th.
Many feel that New York is undercounting the nursing home deaths to try and save Cuomo from scandal.
New York now only reports nursing home deaths as those who died while physically present at the nursing home, if a patient was transported to the hospital before they died they are not included in New York’s nursing home deaths.
Cuomo may be trying to downplay the numbers but there’s no doubt about it, Cuomo’s actions led to loss of life.
A Wall Street Journal investigation looked over the decision both of Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and came to the conclusion that their decisions led to loss of life.
The New York City area had the worst coronavirus outbreak in America by far.
Wall Street found a list of reasons the outbreak in New York was bad, including:
“Improper patient transfers. Some patients were too sick to have been transferred between hospitals. Squabbling between the Cuomo and de Blasio administrations contributed to an uncoordinated effort.”
The Democrats often blame Trump for insufficient planning early on but Democratic states were the ones hardest hit.
“Incomplete staff-protection policies. Many hospitals provided staff with insufficient protective equipment and testing.” was another problem that the Wall Street Journal saw.
De Blasio didn’t try to order protective gear for New York until March, by that time it was hard to find any and Cuomo seized protective gear from hospitals and nursing homes in upstate New York to try and make up for Cuomo’s error.
But Cuomo doesn’t see his actions as responsible for the coronavirus deaths, instead he’s inclined to blame God.
“What is justice? Who can we prosecute for those deaths? Nobody,” Cuomo said during a May 17 press conference. “Nobody. Mother nature. God. Where did this virus come from? People are going to die by this virus. That is the truth.”
The actual truth is that Cuomo is responsible if his policies led to more deaths.
