Chuck Schumer is furious.
Once again, President Trump has humiliated him in front of the entire nation.
And this time, the U.S. Military just gave Schumer a surprise that ruined his week.
Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer just got news he was dreading.
After spending months fighting against the President’s efforts to secure the border and build a wall with Mexico, Schumer thought he had won.
The President seemingly backed down and for a moment, it appeared like Democrats were going to get their way.
But then President Trump pulled a trick on congressional Democrats that is now leading to the Pentagon beginning work on building the wall with Mexico.
“The Department of Defense is shifting $1 billion from a military personnel account to build a 57-mile fence at the southern U.S. border, saying the funds were freed up after some service branches fell short of their recruiting goals,” reports NPR.
In short, construction on the wall has finally begun.
The same wall which President Trump campaigned so tirelessly on when he was first running back in 2016.
And the same wall which helped him defeat Democrats like Chuck Schumer in the first place.
It’s finally underway.
And Chuck Schumer can’t stand it.
Not only did Trump pull a fast one on him, but Schumer was unable to do anything about it.
On Tuesday, the House of Representatives failed to override Trump’s veto of a motion that would have blocked his ability to direct the military to begun construction of the wall.
This essentially means that there is nothing more that Schumer can do to stop the motion from proceeding.
As Schumer and the rest of the Democrats scramble to react to this news, it’s clear that President Trump’s signature campaign promise is finally on the verge of being completed.
And that terrifies Schumer.
He’s more interested in preventing the President from securing the border than he is in working with him.
Because Schumer knows that the only way to stop Trump’s re-election bid in 2020 is to sabotage everything he can get his hands on, even to the point of weakening national security.
However, this time Schumer is going to come up completely empty-handed.
“The Pentagon won’t allow its plan to interfere with military readiness, Acting Defense Secretary Patrick M. Shanahan told members of Congress on Tuesday, seeking to ease concerns about the controversial shift of appropriated funding made possible by President Trump’s declaration of a national emergency,” adds NPR.
“‘Given a legal order from the commander in chief, we are executing on that order,’ Shanahan replied. He added that the Pentagon was aware that there were ‘downsides, which will hamper us’ — including likely losing what he called the privilege of reprogramming funds.”
Attacking the military itself is now the only way that Schumer can prevent the wall from being built.
Which means that will almost certainly be his next target.
