Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez could lose her congressional seat.
One case in front of the Supreme Court will decide her fate.
This congressional lawsuit could end Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes’s political career.
New York has had a severe drop in population and because of that the state is projected to lose the most congressional seats based off the 2020 Census.
The strict lockdown policies that Andrew Cuomo implemented because of coronavirus made many people leave New York City.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezis in danger of having her Congress seat disappear because of this.
The loss in congressional seats based off the Census could make the House Democrats’ majority shrink even further.
House Republicans flipped 12 seats making the Democrat’s majority in the house razor thin.
“Blue states losing even a handful of seats would make the House’s thin Democratic majority even more precarious,” The Washington Free Beacon reported. “Congressional analysts suggest Democrats will lose the House in 2022 on the basis of reapportionment alone, since red states with growing populations are expected to gain seats. But right-leaning states like Florida and Texas could each pick up one seat fewer as a result of the order, according to the Pew Research Center.”
A court case before the Supreme Court could make things even worse for Democrats.
The Trump administration is arguing that illegal immigrants should not count towards the population calculations which determine the number of House seats each state gets.
“The nation’s unauthorized immigrant population is highly concentrated, more so than the U.S. population overall,” Pew Research reported. “In 2016, the 20 metro areas with the most unauthorized immigrants were home to 6.5 million of them, or 61% of the estimated nationwide total. By contrast, only 37% of the total U.S. population lived in those metro areas.”
The Constitution say that House Seats are based off “whole number of persons in each state.”
Acting solicitor general Jeffrey Wall argued in his filing that the Constitution refers to the “inhabitants” of a state and that it is reasonable to conclude that a person who “lacks permission to be in this country” is not an inhabitant.
There are approximately 10.5 million illegal immigrants living in America in mostly Democrat areas.
Each member of the House of Representatives represents approximately 733,000 people.
Having illegal citizens counted makes a huge difference and if the Supreme Court sides with Donald Trump it would be a huge blow for Democrats.
The Trump administration has asked the Census Bureau to create a reliable count of illegal immigrants by Dec. 31, but they now say they’re unable to meet the deadline.
The Trump administration has not yet specified what number or group of illegal immigrants he wants excluded from House seat calculations.
