The scandal surrounding Attorney General Merrick Garland ordering the FBI to raid Donald Trump’s home continues to grow worse for the Biden administration by the day.
It’s one of the worst catastrophes in American history.
And Trey Gowdy spoke two truths that will send Merrick Garland into damage control.
On “Fox News Special Report” former South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy addressed the rising level of criticism and anger on the right towards the FBI.
Gowdy explained the conservative outrage stemmed from two sources.
First, Gowdy stated, Attorney General Garland fought to keep the underlying affidavit that justified the search warrant secret.
That affidavit would provide a better idea of exactly what evidence the Justice Department had to justify the raid as well as the types of documents they believe Trump possessed.
Second, Gowdy told viewers that years of the FBI lying about Donald Trump, planting conspiracy theories in the press and trying to frame Trump for colluding with the Russians eroded the FBI’s trust with conservatives.
“I need more facts. You know, that’s the curse of being a lawyer, Bret, is you want more facts. So with the predicate, the probable cause for the search last week, I’d like to see the affidavit. That’s one source of the anger. The other source of the anger, though, quite frankly, Brett, is six years of a belief on behalf of many Republicans that the blindfold has slipped and that Lady Justice is actually paying attention to who’s in front of her. And that’s not going to be fixed with releasing the affidavit. Oh, absolutely. Which is why they all have these big old black pens where you can redact informant information, grand jury information and ongoing other investigative information. I mean, look, we get redacted stuff all the time. Brett So tell us what you can tell us,” Gowdy declared.
In fact, the two points Gowdy raised are linked.
Americans know that in 2016 the FBI used the hoax Christopher Steele dossier as the centerpiece of the evidence presented to a FISA court judge to obtain a warrant to spy on former Trump campaign aide Carter page.
The bureau renewed the warrant three times despite knowing the dossier was garbage.
Special counsel John Durham also obtained a guilty plea from FBI attorney Kevin Clinesmith for doctoring an email in pursuit of this warrant.
FBI Director James Comey also met with President-elect Trump in early January 2017 to inform him of the existence of the Steele dossier.
Trump rightly took this meeting as Comey threatening to blackmail him as someone then used Comey informing Trump of the dossier as the pretext to leak it to CNN.
That leak lit the fire on the Russian collusion hoax.
During the Mueller investigation, text messages from FBI agents Peter Strzok and Lisa Page revealed they viewed Trump as a threat to democracy and that the investigation was an insurance policy to take down Trump.
Beginning in 2016 the highest levels of the FBI launched a witch hunt into Trump that produced no evidence of a criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.
That hatred of Donald Trump emanating from the FBI continues to this day.
