The battle lines over the confirmation of Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee are being drawn.
Democrats are desperate to destroy President Trump’s nominee.
And Donald Trump challenged Nancy Pelosi to this fight over filling Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat.
At “Great American Comeback” campaign rally in Ohio President Trump dared Nancy Pelosi to follow through on the threat to impeach him in order to grind the Senate to a halt and delay confirmation of President Trump’s nominee until after the election.
“Go ahead. I want them to do that … I’m the only guy in the world that could get impeached for trying to fill a seat on the Supreme Court,” President Trump declared to a roaring crowd.
For the second time in a little over a year, impeachment originated as a fake news media hobby horse.
No Democrat in Washington was talking about impeachment until former Clinton confidante George Stephanopoulos was the one who originated the idea of impeaching Trump to stall the Senate.
In an interview with Pelosi on ABC’s “This Week” Stephanopoulos floated the idea of impeachment as if Stephanopoulos was once again a political aide advising his principle.
It was notable to viewers that Pelosi did not shoot down this lunatic fringe idea.
“We have our options. We have arrows in our quiver that I’m not about to discuss right now, but the fact is we have a big challenge in our country,” Pelosi told Stephanopoulos.
Other Democrats quickly seized on the impeachment gambit.
New York socialist Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez appeared at a press conference with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Schumer did not object when Ocasio-Cortez stated impeachment was on the table as an option to block Senate Republicans from confirming Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s successor.
“I believe that also we must consider, again all of the tools available in our disposal and that all of these options should be entertained and on the table,” Ocasio-Cortez told the press.
Democrats know impeachment was a political loser.
Even after a sustained fake news media campaign to fool the public into thinking President Trump committed impeachable offenses in the Ukraine hoax, President Trump’s poll numbers hit the highest levels of their Presidency.
If the Democrats impeached President Trump over Trump exercising his constitutional authority to nominate Supreme Court justices Trump’s approval numbers will likely increase.
But Democrats don’t care if they cost themselves this one election.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s successor could sit on the Supreme Court for 30 to 40 years.
That is four to five Presidential terms.
Democrats are playing the long game here.
