It has been a difficult year for the whole world.
But now hope has appeared on the horizon.
Now, this shocking good news is also excellent news for Trump.
This Monday, Moderna Inc. reported that its latest experiential COVID-19 vaccine had proven 94.5% effective in clinical trials.
“We just announced that mRNA-1273, our COVID-19 vaccine candidate, has met its primary efficacy endpoint in the first interim analysis of the Phase 3 COVE study.”
This is hopeful news to the whole world that has been suffering from the ramifications of this disease since March.
Moderna’s report came out only a week after Pfizer and the German pharmaceutical company BioNTech reported that their coronavirus vaccines were 90% effective in clinical trials.
Public National Radio reported:
“The results for both vaccines come from interim analyses of large clinical studies. In the Moderna study there were 30,000 volunteers. Half got two doses of the vaccine 28 days apart, half got two shots of a placebo on the same schedule.
Both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines use the same technology to make their vaccines. It’s based on a molecule known as mRNA, or messenger RNA. That molecule contains genetic instructions for making proteins inside cells.
The federal Operation Warp Speed project to hasten development of COVID-19 vaccines awarded Moderna a $1.5 billion contract in August to ramp up manufacturing and deliver 100 million vaccine doses, enough for 50 million people. The government has an option to buy up to 400 million more doses.
Moderna said Monday that it expects to be able to ship about 20 million vaccine doses in the U.S. by the end of 2020. Next year, the company said it expects to be able to make 500 million to 1 billion doses worldwide.”
This good news comes as a relief to the world and an affirmation of President Donald Trump’s Operation Warp Speed.
Operation Warp Speed is an initiative by the government to deliver over 300 million doses of safe and effective vaccines by January 2021.
Their website states that delivering the vaccines is the first step “as part of a broader strategy to accelerate the development, manufacturing, and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics.”
Given the stress COVID-19 has put on the economy and people’s lives, it is hopeful to know a vaccine is in the works to help slow and eventually stop the spread of coronavirus.
This news also comes on the heels of several states re-entering lockdown due to the rise in coronavirus case numbers.
As the weather got colder, more people moved their activities indoors, which allowed less opportunity for social distancing.
President Trump is confident in the success of the vaccines as well as in Operation Warp Speed to reach its goal early next year.
