Everyone expected Donald Trump to accept the nomination of the Republican Party to run for re-election at the national convention this summer.
This was all a mere formality.
But Donald Trump made one major announcement about accepting the GOP nomination in 2020.
The Republican Party initially planned to stage their national conventional this summer in Charlotte, North Carolina.
But the state’s Democrat Governor Roy Cooper is playing politics by keeping the Tar Heel state in lockdown which will prevent mass indoor gatherings like a party political convention.
Republicans then switched their convention to Jacksonville, Florida where Governor Ron DeSantis provided real leadership on reopening his state.
But infections in Florida are rising at the moment.
However, it is not all bad news as the average age of the infected is in the early to mid 30s and the age in Florida with the most reported cases is 21 year olds suggesting the Black Lives Matter protests helped drive this surge.
Florida is reporting 9,000 to 10,000 cases a day – which is around what New York reported during its peak in April – but Florida’s death rate is far below New York, New Jersey and other blue state hotspots.
Breitbart reported that “current data, however, shows Florida in far better shape in terms of the case fatality rate, which on Monday sat at 1.9 percent. DeSantis compared the numbers to Connecticut (9.3 percent), New Jersey (8.6 percent), Michigan (8.5 percent), New York (7.6 percent), Massachusetts (7.4 percent), Pennsylvania (7.2 percent), and Illinois (4.9 percent).”
But in an interview with Greta Van Susteren’s program “Full Court Press” President Trump admitted that the convention in Jacksonville may not look like a traditional party convention.
“We’re always looking at different things,” Trump began “We wanted to be in North Carolina, that almost worked out, but the governor didn’t want to have people use the arena. ”
“Then we went to Florida and when we went, when we signed a few weeks ago it looked good. All of sudden it’s spiking up a little and that’s going to go down,” the President added. “It really depends on the timing, we’re really flexible, we can do a lot of things, but we’re very flexible.”
The Mayor of Jacksonville already stated that if there is a Republican convention in the city their health regulations require everyone in attendance to wear a mask.
But Trump may also decide to bag the traditional acceptance speech because no matter what the science or data shows the fake news media will make the story that the President is trying to kill his own supporters by holding an indoor rally during a pandemic.
