Twitter put their company in a huge amount of risk by censoring Donald Trump.
It cost them billions of dollars.
Twitter’s CEO came out and made a humiliating statement about his Trump ban.
The day after Twitter announced that President Donald Trump would no longer be welcome on the platform their stock went down 12%, costing the company $5 billion in market value.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey released a statement on Wednesday trying to keep other conservatives from leaving his platform.
“I do not celebrate or feel pride in our having to ban @realDonaldTrump from Twitter, or how we got here. After a clear warning we’d take this action, we made a decision with the best information we had based on threats to physical safety both on and off Twitter,” Dorsey wrote. “Was this correct? I believe this was the right decision for Twitter. We faced an extraordinary and untenable circumstance, forcing us to focus all of our actions on public safety. Offline harm as a result of online speech is demonstrably real, and what drives our policy and enforcement above all.”
Political violence is wrong and if big tech was working to take down posts that advocate for violence that would be a common sense standard to have.
Trump used his Twitter during the riot at the Capitol to tell his followers to “stay peaceful” and “go home.”
Since then Trump has denounced the violence multiple times.
It seems as though Twitter is merely using this as an excuse to throw Trump off their platform.
Soon after Twitter threw Trump off their platform, Twitter allowed the hashtag “Hang Mike Pence” to trend.
Big tech is trying to censor right wing opinions off their platforms.
Project Veritas released a video of Dorsey talking about his plans for further censorship.
“We are focused on one account [President Trump] right now, but this is going to be much bigger than just one account, and it’s going to go on for much longer than just this day, this week, and the next few weeks, and go on beyond the inauguration,” said Dorsey in the video.
“We have to expect that we have to be ready for that,” continued the Twitter CEO. “So, the focus is certainly on this account, and how it ties to real-world violence.”
“But also, we need to think much longer-term around how these dynamics play out over time,” added Dorsey. “I don’t believe this is going away any time soon.”
The left is now actively working to keep Republicans from being allowed to speak openly.
This censorship is dangerous, and if it continues it will lead to a complete breakdown of democracy.
