Democrats and William Barr are engaged in one of the most high-profile fights in American political history.
And it’s all about Barack Obama and his legacy.
But William Barr is holding this ace up his sleeve that will ruin Barack Obama for good.
Shortly after the Senate confirmed Barr as Attorney General, the Justice Department reversed course on a major Obamacare case.
A district court judge in Texas ruled that by throwing out the individual mandate, all of Obamacare should be thrown out.
Previously, the Justice Department argued that only coverage mandates should go.
This was a major reversal that redefined the contours of the 2020 election.
And Democrats were livid.
Five different committee chairs fired off a letter to Attorney General Barr demanding all sorts of documents relating to the Justice Department’s decision to reverse course on supporting the Supreme Court striking down all of Obamacare.
“Given the grave consequences that would result if the Trump Administration’s legal position were to prevail, it is Congress’ responsibility as an independent and co-equal branch of government to understand how this decision was made, including whether the President or anyone in the White House instructed the Department to override its legal conclusions and take a position that would result in the loss of health insurance coverage for millions of Americans,” the Democrat committee chairmen wrote.
Democrats want to drag this fight out into 2020 because they think they will benefit politically.
That’s because they thought they bludgeoned Republicans into defeat during the 2018 elections with attack ads over them wanting to do away with protections for pre-existing conditions.
But this is fake news.
Since Democrats passed Obamacare in 2010, Republicans have won three elections on promises to repeal the socialist scheme in 2010, 2014, and 2016.
The only elections the GOP lost in that time frame were 2012 and 2018.
In 2012, the GOP establishment foisted RINO traitor Mitt Romney on the party as the nominee.
Since Romney invented Obamacare when he was Governor of Massachusetts, Romney could not mount a credible attack on Obama’s biggest weakness.
In 2018, the GOP base sat on their hands after John McCain stabbed President Trump and every conservative in the back when he voted against repealing Obamacare—despite campaigning the previous six years on eliminating Obamacare.
A successful court case to rule Obamacare unconstitutional – or at least the fight to repeal Obamacare – would allow the GOP to replicate the electoral successes of 2010, 2014 and 2016.
Elections are contests of base mobilization.
Nothing would rally the conservative base more than if President Trump succeeds on the GOP’s long-promised goal of eliminating Obamacare once and for all.
And thanks to a change in leadership at the Justice Department, that is now possible.
