Every Democrat in America made defeating Donald Trump in 2020 their number one goal.
To accomplish that task, liberals oppose and obstruct every policy Donald Trump proposes.
But that strategy backfired when William Barr set a trap that just destroyed the Democrat Party for good.
Attorney General William Barr announced the federal government would reinstate the death penalty for five convicted murderers.
These would be the first executions carried out by the government since 2003.
The Attorney General explained his decision in a statement released to the public by arguing that Congress authorized the death penalty and that this was the only way to bring justice to the victims’ families.
“Congress has expressly authorized the death penalty through legislation adopted by the people’s representatives in both houses of Congress and signed by the President,” Barr’s statement began.
“Under Administrations of both parties, the Department of Justice has sought the death penalty against the worst criminals, including these five murderers, each of whom was convicted by a jury of his peers after a full and fair proceeding. The Justice Department upholds the rule of law—and we owe it to the victims and their families to carry forward the sentence imposed by our justice system,” Barr concluded.
Every major Democrat Presidential contender jumped at the chance to blast the Trump administration’s move.
“Today is a sad day for the United States. The administration’s decision to resume the death penalty is both misguided and immoral. As a career law enforcement official, I have long opposed the death penalty because it is discriminatory, irreversible, ineffective, and a gross misuse of taxpayer dollars,” California Senator Kamala Harris wrote.
Former Vice President Joe Biden weighed in by tweeting, “Since 1973, over 160 individuals in this country have been sentenced to death and were later exonerated. Because we can’t ensure that we get these cases right every time, we must eliminate the death penalty.”
Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren could not allow anyone to get to her left on this issue by claiming the death penalty was administered in a racist manner.
“Our criminal justice system has a long history of mistakes when it comes to capital punishment—especially when it comes to Black and Brown people. We cannot let a broken system decide the fate of incarcerated Americans. I oppose the death penalty,” Warren wrote.
Finally, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders ripped the move ranting that, “Our broken criminal justice system targets poor people and minorities disproportionately with the death penalty, including those who are innocent. The government should not be in the business of killing people. We must abolish capital punishment.”
But by opposing every move the Trump administration makes in kneejerk fashion, the Democrats may have sown the seeds of their own defeat in 2020.
The latest Gallup poll found 56 percent of Americans support the death penalty as opposed to 41 percent that oppose it.
Democrats can add opposing the death penalty to the list of policies the party’s candidates are adopting such as government-run healthcare, free healthcare for illegal aliens and decriminalizing the act of illegal immigration that are putting whoever wins the Democrat nomination far outside the mainstream of American politics.
