Since taking over as Attorney General, William Barr functioned as one of President Trump’s most loyal and effective cabinet officials.
But now all hell is breaking loose.
And it’s all due to the fact that William Barr delivered an ultimatum to Trump that stunned him into silence.
William Barr gently criticized President Trump by saying the President’s tweets about ongoing Justice Department matters made it “impossible” to do his job.
The President is rightly outraged that career prosecutors target his associates like Roger Stone, Paul Manafort and Michael Flynn with jail time while letting Deep State agents like James Comey and Andrew McCabe walk free despite standing accused of similar crimes.
President Trump expressed his frustration with the Stone trial where the jury forewoman ran for Congress as a Democrat and posted anti-Trump content on her social media account and then hid this fact during jury selection.
Attorney General Barr is fighting a war on two fronts.
Barr appointed two United States Attorneys from outside D.C. to investigate the origins of the Russian collusion hoax and the Michael Flynn case.
And he also has to maintain the moral of the Justice Department employees, the majority of whom lean left as evidence by the fact that DOJ employees contributed nearly $900,000 to Hillary Clinton in 2016 compared to barely over $100,000 to Donald Trump.
Some Trump supporters believe Barr needs the President to restrain himself from public comments so the investigations Barr launched in the Flynn case and the Russian collusion conspiracy theory can proceed with maximum credibility.
That’s why a story claiming Barr told associates close to the President that he would resign if the President did not stop tweeting about Justice Department cases took that seriously.
The Washington Post exclusively reported that, ”Attorney General William P. Barr has told people close to President Trump — both inside and outside the White House — that he is considering quitting over Trump’s tweets about Justice Department investigations, three administration officials said, foreshadowing a possible confrontation between the president and his attorney general over the independence of the Justice Department.” The Post added, “So far, Trump has defied Barr’s requests, both public and private, to keep quiet on matters of federal law enforcement. It was not immediately clear Tuesday if Barr had made his posture known directly to Trump. The administration officials said Barr seemed to be sharing his position with advisers in hopes the president would get the message that he should stop weighing in publicly on the Justice Department’s ongoing criminal investigations.”
The President has said on numerous occasions that he has full confidence in Barr.
And the President’s team made it clear to the Post that Trump had no intention of removing Barr as Attorney General.
But the double standard of “justice” – where Trump opponents can commit crimes with impunity while “career” prosecutors ruin the lives of Trump associates and their families – is rightly infuriating.
