Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Donald Trump are officially squaring off for the GOP presidential nomination.
But there’s an X-factor in this race.
And Ron DeSantis has this secret weapon to use against Donald Trump in 2024.
Fox News Chairman Rupert Murdoch reportedly met with DeSantis in 2020 and promised that if DeSantis ran for president, Fox News would support his campaign.
“According to Vanity Fair, the conservative news mogul invited the Florida Governor to his Vineyard in Bel Air, California for dinner in 2020 and assured him that Fox would support his potential presidential run in 2024,” Knewz reports.
This meeting occurred before there was even a hint of Donald Trump running in 2024.
But after the 2022 midterm elections, where several Trump-endorsed candidates flamed out in key races, Murdoch sent word to Trump that he would not back Trump’s impending re-election campaign.
“We have been clear with Donald. There have been conversations between them during which Rupert made it clear to Donald that we cannot back another run for the White House,” a top News Corp official told The Guardian.
Murdoch is an establishment Republican who favors amnesty and gun control.
And in regards to the 2024 election, Murdoch’s only concern is finding a candidate whom he believes can win.
Reporting suggests Murdoch believes DeSantis is that candidate.
After the midterms, viewers could tell there was a change in Fox News’s editorial direction.
Fox News reportedly instituted a soft ban on having Donald Trump on the air.
Trump appeared on Fox News in September 2022 and then not again until April 2023 – when Soros-backed District Attorney Alvin Bragg indicted Trump on bogus charges.
And Donald Trump Jr. has not appeared on Fox News one time since this soft ban went into effect.
Up until very recently, it would have been a major advantage for DeSantis to have Fox News in his corner.
But Fox News is now a liability with a large segment of the GOP base.
A poll taken after Fox News fired Tucker Carlson showed 37 percent of likely Republican voters held an unfavorable view of Fox News, compared to just 34 percent who viewed the network favorably.

Many conservatives now consider Fox News as the voice of the establishment.
And if Fox News backs DeSantis in 2024, it could help Trump boost his message about DeSantis being the establishment candidate.
